Founded in 1851, the International Order of Good Templars advocated against the manufacture, sale, purchase and consumption of alcoholic beverages. Its aim was to secure a sober world.
Membership required a belief in the existence of Almighty God, and the willingness to undertake the Templars’ life-long pledge.
